My Story

In 2003, Emlah Tubuo arrived in the United States with only $300 to her name. A few short years later, she became Dr Emlah Tubuo, PharmD. Her education is admirable: Bachelors of Science in Microbiology (University of Buea Cameroon), Masters of Science in Molecular Biology (University of Chicago), and Doctor of Pharmacy (The Ohio State University). Her career as a pharmacist began at Kroger Pharmacy, where she practiced for several years before becoming an Ambulatory Care Pharmacist at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. She is now the proud owner of Powell Pharmacy where she also owns and operates her supplement line, Emlah Naturals.

Dr Tubuo’s challenging early life experiences in Cameroon shaped her view and values on life, inspiring her to serve herself and others by providing compassionate, quality healthcare. As a child, she suffered from many preventable illnesses, such as Malaria, Typhoid Fever, and Dysentery. As an adult, she recognized the impact she could have on her community as a pharmacist by prioritizing lifestyle and  preventive medicine. Her goal is to serve each patient with intent, kindness, and compassion while focusing on health as a whole, not just medications.

As a proud Buckeye, Dr Tubuo gives back to her roots by precepting OSU College of Pharmacy students as well as Post-Graduate Residents. Her teaching philosophy is to enhance, teach, and role model emotional intelligence to her students. She focuses on providing practical education that helps support and empower patients to manage their chronic disease states by promoting holistic wellness through intentional eating, customized supplement use, and medication therapy management. For Dr Tubuo’s patients, she strives to provide education that prepares them for a healthy, balanced life and offers many intentional wellness programs to help patients achieve their goals.

As Dr Tubuo’s career grew, so did her family. As the years went by, she and her husband expanded to a family of five. She began to wonder how she could share her experiences finding success as a pharmacist maintaining work-life balance with the other roles she leads: Mother, Educator and Entrepreneur. The answer was to add another role: Speaker. She began her speaking journey by lecturing at The Ohio State University, educating students on Humanistic Pharmacy. She  inspires her audience by sharing her vision on intentional wellness through expansion of clinical services in her community. She has served as the keynote speaker for corporations such as the American Pharmacist Association, National Community Pharmacist Association, American Pharmacist Services Corporation, McKesson, Women of Wendy’s, and the Powell Chamber of Commerce. Her message revolves around taking small consistent steps in the direction of our goals.

Career Highlights

Dr Tubuo’s drive to improve the health of her community has not gone unnoticed. In 2016, she received Kroger’s Leader in Patient Care award as well as achieved the top 1% of immunizing Kroger pharmacies nationwide. Her team ranked in the top 5 pharmacies providing Medication Therapy Management (MTM) services for 2016-2019. In 2017, her team’s success would lead to being ranked in the 100th percentile in the national Outcomes MTM platform, and she was featured in the “Excellence in Rx” feature of the October edition of the National Chain Drug Review. Outside the pharmacy, she is active with the Ohio Pharmacist Association as the District 9 Representative on the Board of Trustees as well as a member on the Practice Advancement and Innovation committees. In 2018, she received the Ohio Pharmacist Association Distinguished Young Pharmacist Award for her contribution to the profession. She is also a member of the National Community Pharmacists Association and the American Pharmacist Association. She has received the Preceptor of the Year Award and the Josephine Sitterle Failer Alumni Award from Ohio State, highlighting her contribution to the community and the profession. She also serves on the Alumni Board of Governors of The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy.
